Adding a new port to a HP Network Team

Problem

A port has died on your NIC and is showing as disconnected in your HP Network Team. The Network Team is no longer redundant.

Solution

You need to add a new port and drop the disconnected port, without affecting the overall settings:

  1. Make sure another port is connected from the NIC to a switch.
  2. Open the HP Network Configuration Utility. In this case, Port 2 in the Team is dead (disconnected), and Port 3 is connected but not in the Team yet:
    Modifying_HP_Network_Team_001
  3. Select the Network Team (HP Network Team #1) and the new connected Port (Port 3), then click Team:
    Modifying_HP_Network_Team_002
  4. Click OK if you get the following warning:
    Modifying_HP_Network_Team_003
  5. Notice that Port 3 is now showing as part of the Team:
    Modifying_HP_Network_Team_004
  6. If you view the Team Properties, it still shows Port 2 as Disconnected and Port 3 as Not Teamed:
    Modifying_HP_Network_Team_005
  7. Select Port 2 and click Drop:
    Modifying_HP_Network_Team_006
  8. Click Yes to apply all changes:
    Modifying_HP_Network_Team_007
  9. After a short while, you should get a message saying the changes were successfully completed:
    Modifying_HP_Network_Team_008
  10. Open the HP Network Configuration Utility once again, and it should now show Team is connected and redundant (green icon):
    Modifying_HP_Network_Team_009
